For people that ask me if I’m vegan, vegetarian, or paleo, I honestly say neither. I personally don’t choose to associate myself with any type of dietary label, and I’d like to keep it that way. I choose to eat for the sake of my health, and advocate this for my clients as well. I believe that with proper education, we can make healthier choices that fit our lifestyles!

What does eating for health look like or involve? In my experience (including my clients), eating organic whole foods in a fermented and oil free form has been a great success thus far, and there’s research to go along with it!

Today we live in a health epidemic of poor chronic health, to say simply. I’ve been so fortunate to work with my mentor for the past 3 years, Dr. Robert Marshall, and have been exposed to health situations on all different scales. From basic digestion issues to chronic conditions that have potential for fatality. From what I have seen and experienced with my clients, the root to all health conditions is directly connected with digestion, or really the lack of it. Digestion has everything to do with what you consume, and the quality of foods you choose to fuel your body with. The struggle? It takes a bit of reprogramming and education to get your diet down pact!

I’ve officially been oil free for just past 9 months! I’m more than proud of this accomplishment for myself. However, this article is not about my accomplishments, but more-so sharing the health incentives to empower you and your overdue body program upgrade!

There are simple things that you can do to improve digestion, and I’d like to gear this towards overall health. With addressing overall health, it still begins with digestion, which highly involves the gallbladder.

The gallbladder is specifically responsible for the digestion of fats.

From the moments we’ve been consuming solid foods, usually during the toddler stage of life, we’ve been consuming processed oil. Whether your, 20, 30 , 40, or 50+, your gallbladder has been working non-stop, 24/7! Think about it, if you were to be working non stop for solid 30 days, with very little sleep, what would happen? You probably wouldn’t even make it to 30 days, really. You’d reach exhaustion at some early point, with no ambition to move or function.

Our body’s are built so beautifully to operate and function at a quantum, cellular, and mechanical level, that SOMEHOW we have managed to survive great amounts of toxicity.

However, when the gallbladder is constantly in a state of mass fat digestion in the form of oils, there comes a point to where the gallbladder is fully packed with sludge & tar, that it manifests in high cholesterol or gallstones. Your gallbladder will have a conversation with other organs like so…

If you haven’t checked out The Awkward Yeti, his art displays the human body organs beautifully! Great respect for using cartoons to communicate the feelings of our overworking organs!

Well, what happens along the course of time as your body reaches this point of high cholesterol, gallstones, or even insulin resistance?

“While olive oil contains a great deal of monounsaturated fat, which has little or no effect on cholesterol, it also contains saturated fat (about 13 percent), the kind that increases cholesterol and worsens insulin resistance.” Neal Barnard, MD

Many people experience gas, bloating, fatty deposits anywhere on the body, acne, thinning hair, headaches, dry skin, or even trouble sleeping! These are fairly common issues today that are known and I have personally seen always go back to the gallbladder.

What can you do NOW to restore your gallbladder?

Remove processed oils from your lifestyle today, and start consuming healthy fats through whole foods where minerals, antioxidants, enzymes, and vitamins are used to allow proper digestion & absorption!

Processed oils include: Anything in oil form…

  • Olive oil
  • Seed oils
  • Nut oils
  • Corn Oil
  • Avocado Oil
  • Canola oil
  • Coconut oil
  • Vegetable oil

“Remember, when you extract the oil from the whole food it was packaged in, you remove it from its antioxidant – and phytochemical-rich environment.  You turn a moderate nutrient-to-calorie into a low nutrient-to-calorie food, and at the same time damage the quality of the fat with heat.” Joel Fuhrman, MD

“One of the most important clotting factors predicting the risk of a heart attack is an elevated factor VII.  All five fats tested—rapeseed oil (canola), olive oil, sunflower oil, palm oil, and butter—showed similar increases in triglycerides and clotting factor VII.” John McDougall, MD

“Extraction processes have removed all of the other ingredients of the whole food.  Thus, free oils are no longer intermixed with the naturally-designed and balanced environment of proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, and ten thousand other chemicals found originally in the plants.” John McDougall, MD

“In a factory, the oil extracted from the rest of the plant is processed to remove moisture and “impurities,” which are the parts of the plant other than the oil.  During this process, caustic soda is added to the oil so some of the impurities become an insoluble soap that settles out.  The resulting mix is further bleached and deodorized to make the product consumers expect to see.  This manufactured substance is then jarred as the oil will deteriorate rapidly if exposed to air.” Janice Stanger, PhD

Here’s the deal…it doesn’t stop with the gallbladder.

There are 6 reasons you should consider going oil free!

  1. Better digestion

    • Removing oils from your diet allows your entire body & digestive organs to re-calibrate to the rhythms they are supposed to operate at. It’s as simple as allowing your body to move out of a state of insulin resistance, which is the pancreas’s responsibility to be able to handle and manage.

“While olive oil contains a great deal of monounsaturated fat, which has little or no effect on cholesterol, it also contains saturated fat (about 13 percent), the kind that increases cholesterol and worsens insulin resistance.” Neal Barnard, MD

  2. Save your gallbladder

    • Once your gallbladder is allowed to take a break from emulsifying (breaking down) fats, it can begin to rebuild its foundation. Over years, the gallbladder becomes chronically jammed with sludge and stones from mass amounts of oil consumption, where it impairs proper bile flow. When you can allow your poor little gallbladder to rest, it can begin to slowly clean house as bile begins to restore its moving flow! Think of it as spring cleaning 🙂
  3. Deep Sleep

    • The body works off of a system called meridians, acknowledged in Chinese medicine. Meridians are invisible paths of energy that move throughout the body, connecting themselves to each organ and gland system. The gallbladder is directly connected to a point called,  “deep sleep,” which is located right behind the ear! When we overwhelm our gallbladder with heavy loads of processed oils, we eventually clog the gallbladder, which blocks the energy pathway to the deep sleep point, interfering with the body’s ability to truly move into a state of deep sleep, referred to as REM (Rapid Eye Movement).
  4. Deflate yourself

    • For many of us, we’ve been eating out at restaurants and/ or consuming packaged foods for years on end. No matter how healthy you are in this moment, there’s no denying that at some point of your life, you were eating out a lot (more than once a week) and/ or on the junk food train. Junk food doesn’t just include pop tarts, fig bars, or donuts. This even includes consuming health packaged food items! Don’t let branding sell you what “Health” looks like on a box. Read the fine print, including “Other Ingredients” on the label. MOST if not all packaged products contain trans fats within them, as they’re mostly used for shelf life extension. Foods like these in addition to processed refined oils on their own contribute to great amounts of inflammation in the body.

Currently, most Americans’ ratios of omega-6 to omega-3 is around 16 to 1. This ratio basically cripples your immune system, and Big Food and Big Pharma both know it. This is the number one reason why eating out at restaurants is bad news. The excess of these fatty acids sits in cell membranes and increases harmful oxidative reactions. Typical body fat stores of linoleic acid have increased three-fold in just a few decades. (

Eicosanoids (also spelled icosanoids) are modified fatty acids in your cell membranes that play a crucial role in cellular messaging, immunity and inflammation. Aspirin and ibuprofen inhibit the eicosanoid pathways and artificially reduce inflammation, but all you’re doing is covering up symptoms of a greater plight. Trans fats are like the devil of food, and chronic, systematic inflammation is possibly the number one culprit of all the preventable diseases that plague America, including arthritis, cancer and heart disease. If humans could just figure out how to balance their omega-6s and -3s, they could reduce and eliminate inflammation.

  5.  Weight Loss

    • The simple act of removing processed oils from your diet immediately influences the amount of caloric intake (energy) your body stores and uses. I don’t necessarily like to advocate a calorie count diet, but have attempted many within my “dieting history.” With the subtraction of caloric value from processed oils within foods you consume throughout the day, this will add to your caloric deficit (decrease)! When comparing calories to lbs, one pound is equivalent to 3,500 kcal (calories). Over the course of 1 week (7 days) , the body requires a deficit of at least 500 kcal per day! The average recipe has anywhere from 2 tsp – 2 tbsps of olive oil within a given meal. For the standard American, this can result into 200-600 calories you’re no longer consuming in saturated fat! In addition, when you remove the packaged food products and trans fats, that’s an even greater deficit! These simple change can greatly help you meet your weight loss goals! Really, without even trying!

“Manufactured oils are no more nutritious or necessary than refined sugar or white flour – but are a more concentrated calorie source, with about 100 calories in just one tablespoon.” Janice Stanger, PhD“

[O]live oil is composed mostly of mono-unsaturated fats, which are not essential.  In fact, to get enough omega-3 from olive oil, you would need to drink 8 ounces per day, that is one cup, 1900 calories, and 216 grams of saturated fat.” Matthew Lederman, MD and Alona Pulde, MD

  6. Healthy Heart

    • Whether you, your family member, friend, or someone you’ve read online about has/ had a heart condition, this is something for you to pay attention to! Heart disease is one of the leading causes of death today. This doesn’t mean people just up and drop dead because their heart spontaneously stops working! There are many factors involved. However, one primary and major factor of heart health goes back to the food quality and prep! You can instantly upgrade your health and become a healthier human by simply removing processed oils from your diet!

“[A] study that looked at olive oils’ effect on blood flow showed that a single meal with olive oil caused increased vessel spasm and decreased blood flow compared to control meals.  Specifically, this study showed that when test subjects were fed the olive oil meal, their major blood vessels had a 31% decrease in blood flow compared to the control.” Matthew Lederman, MD and Alona Pulde, MD

“Similarly, Lawrence Rudel of the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center experimented with the diet of the African Green Monkey, which metabolizes fats very similarly to human beings.  At the end of five years, he found that those monkeys consuming monounsaturated fat did show higher levels of HDL (good) cholesterol and lower levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol, but autopsies on them showed that they had developed just as much coronary disease as those fed saturated fat.” Caldwell B. Esselstyn, MD

All of the above reasons are essential body functions as a human being! Our bodies are highly functional quantum systems that need to be fueled with quality in order to maintain function without malfunction.

Malfunction = body illness!

Our bodies have undergone heavy toxic burdens without our knowing, or even worse, our permission! So, now is the time you can make a healthy lifestyle choice for yourself!
