Indulge In Comfort Food: Guilt Free Garlic Fries!

photoOkay, I’ve reached another obsession!

Recently I’ve been recreating comfort foods into recipes that are completely guilt free.

We’ve been trained to look at french fries as a junk food, which is in fact true when they’re drenched in hydrogenated & rancid oils that have been exposed to high heat. There’s a way that you can enjoy this comfort food completely guilt free!

You may be asking yourself, “Why are french fries okay to eat when you advocate raw foods?”

Yes, I do advocate raw foods, and also advocate balance in your diet. For most people, eating 100% raw is not realistic when they have a busy lifestyle or have a family to feed. So, if you can incorporate anywhere from 50% – 80% of raw food with each meal, you’re already ahead of the game! These yummy oil free fries are a part of your meal that is not raw, obviously.

Eating healthy must be fun, and must ignite the “comfort food factor.” These babies definitely hit that trigger!

If you love watching movies at home and getting all comfy with a snack, these are perfect! They’re even better when you dip them in ketchup! If you haven’t made my fermented ketchup yet, check out my recipe and take your healthy comfort food to an entire new level. French fries and ketchup that your body can actually benefit from? Yes!

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 45 minutes – 1 hour

Organic Ingredients

Yellow potatoes

Garlic Powder

Fresh cracked pepper

Air dried sea salt

Black Pepper

Garlic Powder

Wash potatoes thoroughly with purified water. Using a vegetable scrub brush is always a great additional help:)

Cut potatoes into desired size and shape. I like fries that are long and thin. If you like wedged fried, cut them a little thickerphoto

Lay potatoes out evenly on parchment paper and baking sheet

Season potatoes with garlic & pepper, saving the salt for after baking.

Set into oven at 425° for 45 -60 minutes. If you want them a bit crispier, then leave them in the oven for a longer period of time, watching that they don’t burn 🙂

After about 15 minutes of baking, turn potatoes over so that all sides are exposed to heat

Once potatoes are done and to your desired texture, salt your fries after pulling them out of the oven 🙂

They’re best to eat while still warm and fresh from the oven. If you let them sit and cool for a long period of time, they lose their crunchy freshness 😦

Love to eat these fries with my homemade ketchup!

If you love to eat colorful food, you can also experiment with other types of potatoes!

Living in Hawaii for several years, it’s hard to not fall in love with these beautiful purple Okinawan sweet potatoes 🙂

Enjoy in healthy indulgence 🙂

    1. Not a stupid question at all! Yukon Gold is a common yellow potato 🙂 They’re considered a variety based on their color. Just as there are several types of purple potatoes. Hope this is helpful!

      1. Thanks! That’s fascinating. I always though all the potatoes are more or less the same. Will look for yellow one now, but probably this variety is not available in Ireland
